The auction will be held at 4 p.m. in the Culture Hall on the 8th floor of Shinsegae Department Store in Daegu, featuring a total of 118 pieces worth approximately 10 billion KRW.
The event will showcase various works by globally renowned artists, including Spanish artist Jordi Ribes, who has recently gained attention in the overseas art market, as well as Yayoi Kusama and Takashi Murakami.
Jordi Ribes' oil painting 'The Green Present' (162.0×130.0cm(100), 2021), which is the first original work exhibited domestically, is estimated to be priced between 100 million KRW and 170 million KRW.
The highest-priced piece at the Daegu auction is Yayoi Kusama's 1992 red-colored 'Still Life,' estimated between 740 million KRW and 1.1 billion KRW. The iconic 'Smiling Flower' by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, widely known for his bright colors, will be presented with an estimated price of 450 million KRW to 700 million KRW.
In the category of antique art, a medal repatriated from Italy will be exhibited. It is a set of 11 items including the 'Taegukjang' medal awarded by King Gojong to Italian plenipotentiary Federico Craviosa during the exchange of ratification documents following the Korea-Italy Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1884 (the 21st year of Gojong's reign). The estimated price ranges from 120 million KRW to 180 million KRW. Along with the medal, the certificate, case, a letter from the King of Italy, and seals are all introduced, highlighting its significant historical value, according to Seoul Auction.
Additionally, the true-view landscape painting 'Nakhwaam' of Gayasan, reinterpreted from the perspective of Geomjae Jeong Seon, will find a new owner with an estimated price of 170 million KRW to 300 million KRW. The painting's artistic value is further enhanced by the inscription by Lee Byeong-yeon from Sacheon, which is paired above Geomjae's work.
Furthermore, works by artists from the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, including Kim Gurim and Kwak Insik, as well as Kim Jong-eon, Kim Chang-tae, and Byun Mi-young, who are actively working in Daegu, will also be introduced.
