Gwangju University Wins Multiple Medals at National Taekwondo Championships
'8th Taekwondowon Cup National Taekwondo Championship' Sparring Division: 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Dongjin) is proving itself as the strongest university by consecutively winning medals at the National Taekwondo Championships.
Gwangju University announced on the 13th that it won 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals in the sparring division of the ‘8th Taekwondowon Cup National Taekwondo Competition.’
The competition is being held at the Taekwondowon T1 Stadium in Muju, Jeonbuk, until the 15th.
Gwangju University’s Ko Younghoon (2nd year) won the gold medal in the men’s -87kg category, while Park Seongbin (2nd year) in the men’s -68kg and Kim Yujeong (3rd year) in the women’s -57kg categories each took silver medals.
Additionally, Kim Yumin (1st year) in the women’s -53kg and Jo Haeun (3rd year) in the women’s -67kg categories won bronze medals.
Coach Kang Kyungdo said, “Our athletes have stood out with excellent performance at national competitions this year as well as last year. We will strive to achieve outstanding results in all remaining competitions, including the Power Taekwondo tournament.”
Last December, Gwangju University won ‘2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze’ medals at the National University Taekwondo Individual Championships, and at the subsequent National Taekwondo Competition, they swept gold medals in both team and individual events, securing overall men’s and women’s championships, proving themselves as the strongest university.
