Yoon Young-chan Announces Candidacy for Supreme Council Member: "Rebuild the Party with the 'Principles and Common Sense' from Moon's Party Leader Era"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Yoon Young-chan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea and former Blue House Chief of Public Communication under the Moon Jae-in administration, declared his candidacy for the Supreme Council on the 12th.
On the day, Yoon held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office and stated, "We must rebuild the party anew with the 'principles' and 'common sense' from the Moon Jae-in party leadership era," throwing down his gauntlet.
Yoon said, "The new Democratic Party must be just," adding, "We must overcome the hatred and discrimination that have permeated our politics and party, and become an opposition party that speaks out against the Yoon Suk-yeol administration."
He emphasized, "Those who mock other party members with derogatory terms are not Democratic Party members, and such reckless behavior drives the Democratic Party into a quagmire and is unreasonable," continuing, "Do not ask where they came from, do not dispute differing intentions, but believe that the name of the Democratic Party unites us as one, and let us join forces."
He also stated, "The new Democratic Party must be democratic," and highlighted, "As the inaugural Chief of Public Communication in the Moon Jae-in government, I changed the culture of government communication. Through initiatives like the National Petition, Blue House Live, and live broadcasts of inter-Korean summits, we achieved real-time communication and dynamic direct interaction with the public during historic moments, something no other government or public institution had attempted."
Emphasizing a 'competent party,' Yoon said, "I humbly accept the criticism that 'the Democratic Party only seems to have prosecutorial reform as a reform policy,' and we must establish our own vision for all the challenges we face, including economic and political reform, future industries and labor, ecosystem and climate change, and the wave of digital transformation."

After declaring his candidacy, when asked by reporters whether he had consulted with former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon in advance, Yoon replied, "There was no prior discussion, but I informed him by phone that I had decided to run," adding, "This is not a factional fight between the Lee Jae-myung faction, Lee Nak-yeon faction, or Chung Sye-kyun faction. It is a struggle over whether the Democratic Party can return to the party that the three presidents earnestly wanted to protect, and I hope it is not evaluated as factional conflict."
