Since last month until September, Gyeongbuk Province has been operating a special product called “Eco-friendly Train Travel to Gyeongbuk.”
Using KTX-Eum (Jungang Line) and KTX (Gyeongbu Line), travelers departing from the metropolitan area, Chungcheong region, and Busan arrive at seven stations in Gyeongbuk, tour the area, and submit receipts for entrance fees at the train station counter to receive a Rail Plus Card worth up to 50,000 KRW per person.
The Rail Plus Card can be used at stations nationwide for ticket purchases and at affiliated stores.
Kim Sangcheol, Director of the Cultural Tourism and Sports Bureau of the province, said, “Since the KTX-Eum began operating on the Jungang Line between Cheongnyangni and Andong in January last year, the average daily number of passengers has increased by 22% to 4,000 after opening. The number of KTX Gyeongbu Line users is also steadily increasing.” He added, “We will revitalize Gyeongbuk tourism through aggressive marketing combining the sale of eco-friendly train travel products and online events.”
