[Photo] Korea's First Mathematician to Win the Fields Medal, Professor Heo Jun-yi Returns Home in Glory
Heo Jun-yi, a professor at Princeton University in the United States and a senior researcher in the Department of Mathematics at the Korea Institute for Advanced Study, who won the Fields Medal, known as the Nobel Prize of mathematics, arrived at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 on the morning of the 8th. Professor Heo said he feels a heavy responsibility as his role in advancing Korean mathematics seems to have grown, but he is happy that many people congratulated him. In 2012, Professor Heo solved the "Reed Conjecture," a partial problem of the long-standing "Rota Conjecture" in mathematics, and in 2018, he received the Fields Medal for solving the entire "Rota Conjecture." The Fields Medal is awarded to outstanding young mathematicians under the age of 40 for their exceptional achievements in mathematics, with the award ceremony held every four years at the International Congress of Mathematicians. Here are photos from the scene showing Professor Heo sharing joy with his son at the airport and giving interviews to the press.
