Hyundai, Kia, Ford, Audi, Benz, Honda Recall Over 240,000 Units Across 29 Models
On the 6th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced a recall for a total of 244,056 vehicles across 29 models manufactured or imported and sold by Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, Ford Sales Service Korea, Volkswagen Group Korea, Mercedes-Benz Korea, and Honda Korea due to manufacturing defects.
A total of 170,278 vehicles across 4 models, including the Avante, manufactured and sold by Hyundai Motor Company, were found to have a defect in the internal component (gas generator) of the front seatbelt adjuster. In the event of a collision, this part may detach, potentially causing injury to rear seat passengers.
A total of 44,172 vehicles across 4 models, including the Kia Seltos, were found by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority’s Automotive Safety Research Institute to have a design error in the fuel filter. Glass fibers from the filter components may detach, damaging the high-pressure fuel pump. This can prevent proper high-pressure formation, potentially causing engine stalling due to fuel supply failure.
From July 22, vehicles including the Avante and other 3 models, and from July 11, vehicles including the Seltos and other 3 models, can receive free repairs (including parts repair) at Hyundai Motor Company’s High-Tech Center and Blue Hands, and Kia’s direct service centers, respectively.
A total of 3,538 vehicles across 3 models, including the MKZ imported and sold by Ford Sales Service Korea, were found to have insufficient durability in the brake pedal stopper. This defect may cause the system to mistakenly recognize the brake pedal as being pressed even when it is not, potentially causing the brake lights to illuminate and posing a safety risk.
A total of 451 vehicles across 2 models, including the Explorer Plug-in Hybrid (including pre-sale units), were found to have assembly defects in the rear wheel differential fixing bolts. During driving, the bolts may be damaged, causing the drive shaft to separate and potentially resulting in loss of power transmission.
A total of 212 Escape vehicles were found to have insufficient durability in the transmission lever bushing, which may cause the gear not to shift properly while parked, posing a safety risk.
A total of 1,878 vehicles across 11 models, including the A8 40 TFSI LWB qu., imported and sold by Volkswagen Group Korea (including pre-sale units), were found to have a design error in the turbocharger oil filter. Sediments inside the oil may clog the filter, preventing proper oil supply and causing the turbocharger to malfunction, potentially reducing output.
A total of 774 vehicles across 2 models, including the GLE 350 e 4MATIC Coupe imported and sold by Mercedes-Benz Korea, were found to have improperly tightened fixing bolts on the 12V power supply wiring connected to the electric motor. This may cause poor contact and overheating at the connection, potentially leading to fire.
A total of 57 two-wheelers across 2 models, including the GL1800 imported and sold by Honda Korea, were found to have software errors in the Engine Control Unit (ECU). This defect may cause the engine to stall when operating the clutch lever while driving.
