Maroon 5 to Visit Korea on November 30... Poster Featuring 'Rising Sun Flag' Displayed on Official Website
Announcing World Tour Schedule on Homepage
Poster Design Evoking the Rising Sun Flag
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The American pop band Maroon 5 is facing controversy for using a poster reminiscent of the Rising Sun Flag ahead of their concert in Korea on November 30.
On the 3rd, Maroon 5 announced their world tour schedule, including Seoul, on their official website. This will be their first concert in Korea in 3 years and 9 months since February 2019.
Maroon 5 used a design reminiscent of the Rising Sun Flag, a symbol of Japanese militarism, on the poster announcing their world tour on their official website. However, the poster uploaded on their official SNS accounts does not feature this design.
In 2019, when Sean Lennon, John Lennon's son, made remarks defending the Rising Sun Flag, Maroon 5 member Jesse Carmichael agreed, saying Sean Lennon's words were a "Sick burn."
Maroon 5 is scheduled to perform starting in Singapore on November 28, followed by Seoul on the 30th, Tokyo on December 4, Osaka on the 6th, Manila on the 8th, and Bangkok on the 10th.
Maroon 5 debuted in 2002 with hit songs such as "This Love," "She Will Be Loved," and "Sunday Morning" from their first album.
Their second album's lead single "Makes Me Wonder" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the first time. They continued to release hits after 2010, including "Moves Like Jagger" in 2011 and "One More Night" in 2012.
