Foreign National Wandering the Streets with a Weapon, Reason for Being Hit by a Taser Gun
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A foreigner carrying a weapon and wandering the streets was subdued with a taser gun after refusing to comply with police orders.
On the 30th, Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced that they had booked a 23-year-old Vietnamese national, Mr. A, on charges of violating the Minor Offenses Act (concealing and carrying a weapon).
Mr. A is accused of roaming around a residential area in Wolgok-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, around 2 p.m. the previous day, carrying a kitchen knife.
The police responded to the report and arrived at the scene, warning Mr. A five times to "drop the weapon." When he did not comply, they issued a "Code Zero (0)" and fired a taser gun.
During the police investigation, with the help of an interpreter, Mr. A explained that "his Korean is poor, so he could not understand the police officers' instructions."
He reportedly denied the charges, stating that he had taken the kitchen knife to a friend's house nearby to cook.
