Report on Mandatory Compliance Items Presided Over by the County Governor and Instructions for Improvement Measures
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held a meeting on the 29th to review compliance with the Serious Accident Punishment Act, chaired by Gu In-mo, the head of Geochang-gun and the person responsible for safety and health management, with all department heads, heads of affiliated institutions and business offices, and eup/myeon chiefs gathered in one place.
This meeting was organized to have department heads inspect whether the obligations to secure safety and health stipulated in the Serious Accident Punishment Act were faithfully fulfilled for the relevant projects and facilities to prevent serious accidents in the county workplaces, and to share improvement measures for accident prevention.
At the meeting, Jeong Se-hwan, General Manager of Safety, reported that as a result of checking compliance with mandatory requirements under related laws during the first half of the year, 164 cases in the first quarter were completed for improvement, and improvement measures were taken for 224 cases in the second quarter.
Gu In-mo, the county head, comprehensively inspected the establishment and implementation status of the safety and health management system, and exchanged opinions with department heads on various matters such as improvements to hazardous and dangerous factors, necessary budget allocation for securing personnel, facilities, and equipment, procedures for hearing workers’ opinions, and sharing accident cases.
At the meeting, the county decided to actively reflect the derived improvement measures in administration, and department heads pledged to take the lead in monitoring employees’ health and working conditions to create the safest working environment nationwide.
Gu In-mo said, “To create a healthy, pleasant, and safe working environment for employees, I ask all our department heads and staff to work together with me, the person responsible for safety management, to prevent serious accidents.”

In preparation for the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act on January 27, the county established a Serious Accident Prevention TF team, and the county head personally completed safety management responsibility training, the first in the province. Additionally, an industrial health doctor was appointed, and a professional safety manager was hired to conduct quarterly safety and health inspections at 18 business sites including the county office and all eup/myeon offices, swiftly responding to achieve zero occurrence of serious accidents.
