Jindo-gun Hosts 'Domestic Kimchi Consumption Promotion Campaign'
Promoting the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System to Encourage Consumption of Domestic Kimchi
[Jindo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Jindo County in Jeollanam-do held a ‘Domestic Kimchi Consumption Promotion Campaign’ to boost the consumption of domestically produced kimchi.
Recently, the campaign held at the Jindo County 5-day Market aimed to prevent the sale of cheap imported kimchi disguised as domestic kimchi and to encourage the consumption of Jeollanam-do kimchi, which is known for its world-class quality.
The ‘Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System’ is a system where the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling Committee certifies companies or institutions that use kimchi supplied from producers made with 100% domestic ingredients or make kimchi themselves.
The county targets certifying about 100 places, including restaurants, schools, hospitals, public institutions, and corporate cafeterias, by September.
To apply for certification, submit documents such as supply and sales contracts for domestic kimchi or purchase records of kimchi ingredients to the Economic Marketing Division of the county office or the town and township offices.
The Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling Committee reviews the application and issues a certification mark. The certification period is one year, and the use of domestic kimchi will be checked annually for re-certification, ensuring thorough post-management.
Certified places can use the certification mark to assure consumers of the safety of the kimchi, which is expected to promote the consumption of domestic agricultural products and contribute to increasing farmers’ income.
A representative from the Jindo County Economic Marketing Division said, “We will create a kimchi consumption culture so that tourists visiting the clean Jindo County can safely enjoy high-quality kimchi made from napa cabbage and various ingredients produced in Jindo County.”
