‘Van Cliburn Winner’ Yunchan Lim to Share Stage with Maestro Myung-Whun Chung in August
Conductor and Soloist at KBS Symphony Orchestra Concert on August 26
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Pianist Lim Yunchan (18, Korea National University of Arts), who became the youngest winner in history at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, will perform on stage with world-renowned conductor Chung Myung-whun.
Gwangju Cultural Foundation announced on the 28th that Lim Yunchan will appear as a soloist in the KBS Symphony Orchestra concert held at Namhansanseong Art Hall in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province on August 26.
In the first part, Lim Yunchan will perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, which he played in the first round of the Van Cliburn Competition finals. In the second part, the KBS Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Chung Myung-whun, will perform Dvo??k's Symphony No. 7, one of the representative symphonies of Romanticism.
Lim Yunchan debuted in 2015 at the age of 11 with the Kumho Young Artists Concert and gained recognition by becoming the youngest first-place winner at the Yoon Isang International Music Competition in 2019. Now 18 years old, he recently won the 16th Van Cliburn Competition as the youngest winner ever, signaling his emergence as a next-generation pianist.
Chung Myung-whun is a world-renowned maestro who has conducted top-tier orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and Vienna Philharmonic, as well as leading opera houses worldwide. Earlier this year, he was appointed as the honorary conductor of the KBS Symphony Orchestra, a title given to conductors who have contributed to the orchestra's development. He currently serves as principal guest conductor of the Dresden Staatskapelle, honorary artistic director of the Tokyo Philharmonic, and music director of the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra.
Lim Yunchan and Chung Myung-whun will also perform together on October 5 at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul.

In this concert, Lim Yunchan will perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 'Emperor' with the One Korea Orchestra conducted by Chung Myung-whun. Chung Myung-whun and the One Korea Orchestra will also perform Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 'Fate' in addition to the 'Emperor'.
