[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is recruiting applicants for the ‘Seoul City Transportation Expense Support Project for Pregnant Women,’ which provides 700,000 KRW per person in transportation expenses to pregnant women who are transportation-vulnerable.
This support project is being promoted to create a stable childbirth environment by providing mobility convenience to pregnant women.
The support target is pregnant women who give birth from July 1, the application date. Also, applicants must have resided in Gangbuk-gu for more than six months as of the application date to be eligible. If transportation expenses are applied for during pregnancy, they can be used up to 12 months from the expected delivery date; if applied for after childbirth, they can be used up to 12 months from the child’s birth date.
Transportation expenses are provided as vouchers on a credit (or debit) card in the name of the pregnant woman. Applicants can choose one from Shinhan, Samsung, KB Kookmin, Woori, Hana, or BC (Hana BC, IBK Industrial Bank) cards. If they do not have the card, they can issue a new card and then use the voucher.
Pregnant women can use the provided vouchers for public transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis, as well as for private vehicle fuel expenses.
Applicants can apply from July 1 on the Seoul City Pregnant Women Transportation Expense website. However, to disperse simultaneous access during the first five days when many applicants apply, a 5-day rotation system will be implemented. Applicants should apply on the designated day based on the last digit of their birth year: ▲1st day for 1, 6 ▲2nd day for 2, 7 ▲3rd day for 3, 8 ▲4th day for 4, 9 ▲5th day for 5, 0.
If online application is not possible, applicants can also apply at the community service center of the district where the pregnant woman’s resident registration is located. For more details, contact the Dasan Call Center or the relevant community service center.

Following the first performance held last month, the second visiting Youth Busking took place next to the Silver Cafe under the shade of a tree in Myeonmok-dong.
The volunteer performance team ‘Eunhan’ delivered a unique and exciting haegeum (Korean traditional string instrument) performance, and ‘Andante’ performed 70s and 80s acoustic guitar music. Recreational activities to boost the vitality of the seniors were also conducted.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I hope the seniors were able to forget the heat for a moment and enjoy a pleasant time through music,” adding, “We will continue to strive to prepare various cultural programs for the elderly.”
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced that starting in July, it will promote a senior health management project based on AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things).
The project aims to reduce unnecessary visits to medical institutions such as public health centers by utilizing AI and IoT technologies and to provide continuous and systematic health management services to seniors.
As the ultra-aged society rapidly approaches, the aging population and the number of chronic disease patients are also rapidly increasing.
Accordingly, the district decided to promote the ‘AI-IoT Based Senior Health Management Project’ to help seniors manage chronic diseases and improve health habits without time and space constraints by utilizing AI and IoT technologies.
This project provides non-face-to-face health management services using smartphone apps and smart health management devices for health-vulnerable seniors.
The support target is about 600 seniors aged 65 or older residing in Gangseo-gu who need chronic disease management and health habit improvement. However, seniors must have a smartphone registered in their own name, and those with long-term care grades 1 to 5 or those eligible for chronic disease management self-measurement device support from the National Health Insurance Service are excluded.
Participating seniors will be provided with customized smart devices such as wristwatch-type activity trackers, scales, blood pressure monitors, blood glucose meters, and AI speakers based on a preliminary assessment of health risk factors.
The district monitors health data measured by seniors through smart devices using a dedicated mobile app, managing blood pressure, diabetes, and health habits. If abnormal data occurs, a phone confirmation is made, and face-to-face diagnosis is conducted if necessary.
Additionally, customized health information is provided based on health measurement data and service usage status.
Furthermore, periodic health tasks are assigned via text messages to help seniors perform individual tasks and achieve goals, thereby forming healthy habits independently.
Before launching the project, the district actively identifies participating seniors in cooperation with welfare planners in each neighborhood, senior welfare facilities, and medical institutions, and accepts applications at any time.
Seniors wishing to participate should first confirm eligibility by phone with the Gangseo-gu Public Health Center’s Health Management Division, then apply by phone or visit the local community service center or the Health Management Division.
The district plans to prioritize support for health-vulnerable seniors living alone, seniors aged 65 to 70, and those in the focused and regular management groups of the visiting health management project.
