Jung Young-hak, New Chief of Northern District Prosecutors' Office, Says "Prosecutors Must Unite to Actively Respond to New Changes"
Inauguration Ceremony of Jeong Young-hak as New Chief Prosecutor of Northern District on the 27th
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Jeong Young-hak (49, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 29), the new chief prosecutor of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office, held an inauguration ceremony and officially began his term.
On the 27th, through the inauguration ceremony, Chief Prosecutor Jeong stated, "At this time when the entire criminal justice system is undergoing significant changes, the prosecution must steadfastly fulfill its fundamental mission to minimize problems arising from the enforcement of the amended law," adding, "We must all unite our efforts to actively respond to the new changes."
He also said, "During the amendment process of the Criminal Procedure Act and others, many citizens offered both warm support and sharp criticism to the prosecution," emphasizing, "We must humbly listen to these voices and faithfully perform the roles that the public expects from the prosecution." He continued, "The beginning is to diligently carry out the prosecution's core duties in each of our respective positions," and added, "Regarding the changed work environment, we must consider what kind of harm the public might suffer due to the law's enforcement and establish a reasonable work system to resolve these issues."
He also stressed the need to make every effort to eradicate crime. He said, "We must concentrate our capabilities to the fullest on eradicating violent crimes, crimes infringing on people's livelihood, and corruption crimes so that local residents can feel safe and engage in their livelihoods," and added, "In the process, we should also make thorough efforts to protect socially vulnerable groups such as children and the disabled, and perform well in comforting the pain of crime victims."

Chief Prosecutor Jeong is from Busan Metropolitan City. After graduating from Busan Haedong High School and Seoul National University with a degree in law, he passed the 39th Judicial Examination in 1997.
