Ministry of Economy and Finance and 8 Other Ministries Establish 'Youth Advisory Role'... Open Recruitment for Grade 5 Special Positions Aged 19-34
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] The government will establish youth advisory positions in nine ministries, including the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This is one of President Yoon Seok-yeol's campaign promises to create a channel for youth to directly participate in the policy process and reflect the perspectives of the younger generation in national governance.
On the 26th, the Prime Minister's Secretariat announced that youth advisory positions will be assigned to nine ministries and committees that have established dedicated youth policy organizations (Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Financial Services Commission), and a 2030 advisory group will be formed.
Youth advisory positions will be publicly recruited targeting young people aged 19 to 34 and hired as special service grade 5 public officials. The Prime Minister's Office explained, "We are hiring them as special service grade 5 officials because recruiting them as general service officials, such as fixed-term professionals, raises entry barriers."
Youth advisors will be placed in the ministerial offices of each ministry and committee, working independently and playing a role in reflecting the perceptions of the younger generation in major policies.
The 2030 advisory group will promote the participation of youth who have been marginalized in the policy decision-making process and serve as a bridge to convey the perceptions and opinions of youth to the youth advisors.
The 2030 advisory group will consist of more than 20 members, including youth advisors, mainly from the MZ generation aged 19 to 39.
The government plans to promptly revise the organizational regulations of the nine ministries and committees and enact a Prime Minister's directive to establish the operational foundation for youth advisory positions and the 2030 advisory group.
