Gyeongsangnam-do Conducts Special Inspections on Rail and Cableway Facilities for Summer Vacation Season... Total of 13 Sites Targeted
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 14th that it will conduct a joint special inspection of track and ropeway facilities such as monorails, cable cars, and lifts installed at major tourist attractions in the province to welcome the first summer holiday season since the full lifting of social distancing measures.
This inspection, following two special safety inspections after the monorail accident in Yokjido, Tongyeong, in November last year, will be carried out by forming a public-private joint inspection team with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, city and county officials, the Korea Industrial Safety Association, the Korea Ropeway Association, and private experts.
The inspection targets a total of 13 locations: 6 monorails, 5 cable cars, and 2 lifts within the province. From June 27 to July 1, the inspection will focus on compliance with safety rules such as speed and maximum passenger capacity of track and ropeway facilities, daily and regular (every 3 months) inspections, qualifications and placement standards of safety managers, reporting of changes such as appointment, dismissal, or retirement of safety managers, and fulfillment of obligations after accidents.
Minor issues found during the inspection will be corrected immediately on site, and operators violating the 'Rail Transport Act' will face administrative measures such as business suspension or fines.
