Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor-elect of Dongdaemun-gu, Concludes Transition Committee Activities... "Leading the Creation of an Honest Organizational Culture"
On the Morning of the 23rd, the Inaugural Committee for the 8th Term Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Held a Closing Ceremony
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The transition committee for newly elected Dongdaemun District Mayor Ilpyeong Lee announced that it has concluded its active activities over 10 days from the 10th to the 23rd.
Under the slogan "Comfortably! Safely! Transparently!", the transition committee, launched on the 10th and chaired by Jang Su-gil, former Deputy Mayor of Dongdaemun District, was composed of 15 practical transition members well-versed in local issues. It also operated open dialogue channels in 14 neighborhoods to promptly identify stagnant local problems.
The committee focused on thoroughly listening to various issues linked to the mayor-elect’s campaign promises during departmental work reports, proposing about 200 policies to all district departments and the Facilities Management Corporation.
To actively resolve issues such as relocating Bapppuh and organizing street vendors around Cheongnyangni, the committee suggested a full review of the street vendor permit system and sales stand installation projects, as well as an operational inspection of Cheongpung Youth Hostel, which urgently needs improvement due to deficit operations, aiming to minimize inconvenience to residents.
To create a city where everyone from children to seniors feels safe, the committee requested efforts to expand security CCTV and operating personnel in vulnerable areas, improve weak facilities threatening residents’ safety including issues at the Probation Office, and ensure a safe living environment.
Furthermore, it proposed accelerating redevelopment and reconstruction projects to foster a pleasant living environment in Dongdaemun District, striving to shed its long-standing reputation as a deteriorated city and transform into a residential, commercial, transportation, and cultural hub.
Additionally, the committee suggested establishing a temporary district reform team to efficiently reorganize the district office and affiliated organizations, reviewing measures to create a clean organizational culture through transparent and fair personnel administration such as promotions, aiming to build a trustworthy and competent Dongdaemun District.
