[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] On the 23rd, the People Power Party prayed for the eternal rest of Cho Soon, a giant of Korean economics and former Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, stating, "The disciples of the Cho Soon school still lead South Korea's economic growth."
Kim Hyung-dong, chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, said in a statement that day, "It is known that the late Cho Soon walked the path of economics with the intention of 'becoming an economist like Keynes and alleviating poverty that has lasted for thousands of years.'"
Kim added, "The late Cho Soon was known to have devoted himself to nurturing future scholars as an emeritus professor at Seoul National University until recently," and evaluated, "The co-authored book 'Principles of Economics' continues to be revised and is regarded as the 'Bible of Economics,' establishing itself as a textbook for economics students."
He continued, "The late Cho Soon was both a scholar and a practitioner," introducing his career as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs under the Roh Tae-woo administration and Governor of the Bank of Korea. He also added that after being elected as the first mayor of Seoul in the first local elections, he held his inauguration ceremony at the site of the Sampoong Department Store collapse the day before the ceremony, showing that he was always with the lives of citizens.

Kim Hyung-dong said, "The late Cho Soon served as the first president of the Grand National Party, the predecessor of the People Power Party, and personally named the party.
