IoT Hacking Threats... LG Uplus Develops Enhanced Security Solutions
Collaboration with IoT Security Solution Company ICTK Holdings
PUF Technology Draws Love Calls from LGU+ and KT
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] # In March last year, a hacker group hacked the management accounts of a US security company and accessed surveillance cameras at hundreds of locations including Tesla factories, psychiatric hospitals, and prisons. In December of the same year, over 700 apartment complex wall pads in South Korea were hacked, resulting in a massive leak of videos containing the private lives of ordinary residents.
According to the industry on the 23rd, cases of hacking CCTV and smart home devices using Internet of Things (IoT) technology to infect systems and steal personal information or intentionally leak videos containing personal privacy are increasing. As the number of IoT-connected devices continues to grow worldwide, such personal information leakage cases are also rapidly increasing. According to IoT Analytics, the number of IoT-connected devices, which was around 10 billion in 2019, is expected to increase more than threefold to 30.9 billion by 2025.
As not only companies but also individuals are exposed to hacking, the need for security solutions has grown. LG Uplus, in collaboration with IoT security solution company ICTK Holdings, has introduced the world’s first ‘PUF VPN’ technology that can strengthen the security of ‘Intelligent CCTV’ for small business owners. PUF, which stands for Physical Unclonable Function, is a technology that generates and utilizes encryption keys by exploiting microscopic gaps occurring during semiconductor manufacturing. The chip gaps occurring at the nanometer scale are irregularly generated, giving each chip uniqueness like a human fingerprint, which can be used as a security key. ICTK Holdings’ PUF technology has already been installed in LG Uplus’s home CCTV and KT’s mobile internet router product called ‘5G Egg.’
