'Minbangwibok' Revised After 17 Years... Pilot Application in 'Eulji Exercise' Following Public Opinion Collection
Collecting Public Opinions from the 24th to the 6th of Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 23rd that it will collect public opinions from the 24th of this month to the 6th of next month to enhance the functionality and field activity of civil defense uniforms and improve colors and designs.
The current civil defense uniform was created and used as a unified yellow outfit in 2005 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the civil defense corps, intended to be worn and used during various emergency situations and disaster sites.
Accordingly, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has been promoting a redesign and reorganization of the uniform with enhanced functionality and field activity, reflecting past criticisms and field demands. The new civil defense uniforms will be largely divided into emergency duty use and field activity use according to their purposes, aiming to increase functionality and activity suitability for each use.
The reorganized civil defense uniforms will be pilot-applied this year during the Eulji Exercise mainly to essential personnel from central government ministries and metropolitan local governments, and the field activity uniforms to be used at disaster sites will undergo functional improvement research to ensure safe mission conditions for civil defense members, with reorganization planned to be completed by next year.

Public opinion collection on the emergency duty civil defense uniform reorganization plan will be conducted online and offline from the 24th. Kim Seong-ho, Director of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters, said, “It is necessary to reorganize civil defense uniforms considering changes in disaster and security environments and field activity,” and added, “We ask for the public’s great interest and participation in deciding the new civil defense uniforms.”
