Foundation Wins Grand Prize in Intelligent Service Category for 'AI Sewer Pipeline Defect Detection System'
AI Automatically Identifies Defect Types and Locations by Analyzing CCTV
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Digital Foundation announced on the 23rd that it won the Grand Prize in the Intelligent Service Organization category at the ‘2022 Intelligence Awards’.
The Intelligent Service Award received by Seoul Digital Foundation at this conference is awarded when contributions to the development of intelligent services using business intelligence, big data analysis, data mining, and other technologies are recognized.
Seoul Digital Foundation’s ‘AI-based Sewer Pipeline Defect Detection System,’ which won the Intelligence Award, is a system that automatically identifies defects in sewer pipeline closed-circuit (CC) TV footage by utilizing ‘computer vision technology,’ which enables computers to recognize videos and images. Previously, defect detection in sewer pipelines involved inspectors manually reviewing CCTV footage of circular sewer pipelines spanning a total length of 9,000 km across Seoul. However, by using the ‘AI-based Sewer Pipeline Defect Detection System,’ the accuracy of defect detection can be improved, and the review time can be drastically reduced.
Seoul City expects that with the introduction of the ‘AI-based Sewer Pipeline Defect Detection System,’ proactive maintenance and other measures can be taken to prevent accidents.
Meanwhile, Seoul Digital Foundation held a special session at the ‘International Conference on Electronic Commerce (ICEC) 2022’ and presented five topics related to digital transformation and bridging the digital divide. As examples of utilizing big data analysis results to improve Seoul city administrative tasks, they introduced ▲ policy utilization of IoT infrastructure in smart cities ▲ analysis of public Wi-Fi hotspot locations based on spatiotemporal floating population analysis.
As research achievements in digital transformation and bridging the digital divide, they presented ▲ a review of digital technology utilization in the construction sector following the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act ▲ introduction and utilization plans of GeoAI-based urban change detection services ▲ development of digital accessibility standards friendly to the elderly.
