Putin: "Next-Generation ICBM Sarmat to Be Deployed by the End of This Year"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on the 21st (local time) that the next-generation intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) 'Sarmat' will be deployed for combat by the end of the year.
According to foreign media, President Putin said during a televised meeting with graduates of a senior military educational institution, "A successful test launch of the Sarmat medium ICBM has been conducted," and "The first unit is planned to enter combat duty by the end of this year." He also stated, "Considering potential threats and risks, we will continue to develop and strengthen our military."

The Sarmat is known to have a maximum range of 18,000 km and can carry up to 15 multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs) with a megaton-class (equivalent to 1 million tons of TNT) explosive yield.
