Samsung Electronics Wins Presidential Award for Automotive Pixel LED at the International Optical Convergence O2O Expo

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Electronics announced that its vehicle module PixCell LED received the Presidential Award at the 'International Optical Convergence O2O Expo' held on the 21st at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do. Having previously won the Presidential Award two years ago for its Human-Centered Lighting (HCL) technology, the company reaffirmed its LED technology leadership with this new recognition.
PixCell LED is a light source module for intelligent headlamps (ADB) applied to electric and autonomous vehicles, embodying Samsung Electronics' advanced LED light source technology. It includes a function that precisely controls the headlamp according to the driving conditions of vehicles ahead or oncoming traffic.
Unlike mounting individual LEDs that serve as a single segment on a substrate, the product integrates about 100 segments into one LED. A segment refers to the smallest unit of a light-emitting element individually driven within a single LED chip.
It can easily secure the brightness required for headlamps with only 1/16 of the luminous area of a typical intelligent headlamp LED module. This allows for simpler design of optical system heat dissipation structures. The size of the headlamp can also be reduced by 30 to 50%.
By applying a partition wall structure to each segment to minimize light interference between segments, it achieves a contrast ratio of 300:1 compared to conventional LEDs. This strengthens the differentiation of LED light source integration technology.
