The Best Academic Award of the Korean Society of Pediatric Anesthesiologists is given to the most outstanding paper published in SCI or SCIE journals on pediatric anesthesia topics in the previous year.
Professor Kim studied the differences in electroencephalograms (EEG) between pediatric patients exhibiting emergence delirium, an abnormal behavior during the recovery period after general anesthesia, and a normal control group in pre-school aged infants. In particular, she was highly evaluated for discovering differences in EEG patterns before and after exposure to general anesthesia in infants with vulnerable brain structures compared to normal children.
This research was published last year in the globally renowned SCIE journal in anesthesiology and pain medicine, the British Journal of Anaesthesia (IF=9.166).

Professor Kim said, "From a parent's perspective, infants in developmental stages can be sensitive to even small external stress factors, and both parents and children have many fears, especially when general anesthesia is essential for surgery. This study began with the aim of finding answers as a researcher to the concerns and questions of parents facing surgery and to assist in clinical care. I will continue to steadily pursue research in this field."
