On the 20th, LG Electronics announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for ‘Plant Lifestyle Appliance Industry-Academia Joint Research’ at Yeonam University located in Cheonan, Chungnam. Through this collaboration, LG Electronics and Yeonam University will analyze the growth conditions of various plants that can be grown in the Tiun and Tiun Mini plant lifestyle appliances using digital transformation (DX) and big data, then identify the optimal environments and apply these findings to the products. Yeonam University, operated by the LG Yeonam Academy, is equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure for plant research, including one of the nation’s top smart farms using artificial light sources.
LG Electronics will systemically analyze data such as lighting brightness and duration, temperature, humidity, and watering cycles to find the best conditions for each plant to thrive. Through this process, LG plans to continuously develop and release new seed kits so that customers using LG Tiun and Tiun Mini can experience a wider variety of plant lifestyles.
Currently, LG Electronics sells a total of 22 Tiun seed kits, including 12 leafy vegetables such as Cheongchima lettuce, Ssam lettuce, and Romaine; 5 flowers such as Marigold, Candle Celosia, and Viola; and 5 herbs such as Arugula, Peppermint, and Thyme. For the Tiun Mini, 6 types have been initially released, including Ssam lettuce, Cheongchima lettuce, Vitamin, Bok choy, Marigold, and Arugula.
LG Tiun is a new-concept plant lifestyle appliance that allows customers who want to grow plants in their personal space but hesitate due to management difficulties to easily grow and enjoy flowers, vegetables, and herbs. By following the guidance of the LG ThinQ app and simply providing water and nutrients, anyone can easily experience the joy of nurturing companion plants.
