'National Fencing Representative' Kim Jeongmi Wins Gold Medal at Asian Championships
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Jeongmi, a 'national representative fencer' produced by Honam University (President Park Sangcheol) and a senior in the Department of Sports Leisure, won the gold medal in the women's sabre team event at the 2022 Asian Championships held at the Seoul Olympic Park Fencing Stadium.
Kim Jeongmi, along with Kim Jiyeon and Yoon Jisoo (both from Seoul Metropolitan Government), and Choi Suyeon (from Ansan City Hall), defeated Japan 45-39 in the women's sabre team final.
With this victory, Korea reclaimed the championship title for the first time in seven years since the 2015 Singapore competition.
Kim Jeongmi also won the gold medal in the women's sabre team event at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) World Cup held in Hammamet, Tunisia, on May 9.
Last October, she was the only university student selected as a national fencing representative, known for her fast attacks and counterattacks following opponents' failed attacks.
She has an impressive record including ▲1st place in the 49th President's Cup team event ▲1st place in the 50th President's Cup individual event and 2nd place in the team event ▲2nd place in the 59th National Championships individual event ▲3rd place in the 26th Kim Changhwan Cup individual event.

Meanwhile, the Honam University fencing team (coach Kim Byungjin), since its establishment in 2011, has become a cradle for producing national fencing representatives including Kim Jeongmi, Choi Dahee (class of 2011, Rio Olympics representative), Kwon Mina (class of 2012, national representative reserve), Jeong Sunghyun (class of 2015, national representative reserve), Park Daeun (class of 2016, youth national representative), and Yang Yesol (class of 2017, national representative reserve).
