On the 15th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the appointment of Professor Jang as the president of the Seoul Arts Center. His term will be from the 17th until June 16, 2025, lasting three years.
President Jang graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in the United States with a major in piano and earned his master's and doctoral degrees from the same graduate school. Since 1995, he has served as a professor in the piano department at Seoul National University College of Music.
President Jang has served as a juror for prestigious international piano competitions worldwide, including Cleveland, Dublin, and Bonn Beethoven competitions. He has also performed extensively on domestic and international stages, collaborating with orchestras such as the London and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestras, Osaka and Chattanooga Symphony Orchestras, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and KBS Symphony Orchestra.
A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official stated, "The new president is a figure who has accumulated nearly 40 years of field experience in the classical music sector," adding, "With his experience and leadership, he is expected to strengthen the role and status of the Seoul Arts Center in promoting culture and arts and expanding opportunities for the public to enjoy culture, as well as contribute to enhancing the institution's public nature and accountability."
Meanwhile, Yoo In-taek, whose term expired in March, held a retirement ceremony on this day after keeping the position vacant until the appointment of his successor.
