Gwangju Superintendent-Elect Lee Jeong-seon to Implement 'Skilled Gwangju·Vacation Meal Support' Immediately Upon Inauguration
Request to Devise Measures to the Transition Committee... Formation of TF Team
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Jeongseon, the elected superintendent of Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, requested the transition committee to devise measures that can be implemented immediately upon taking office to improve student performance and support student meals during school vacations.
In response to Lee's request, the transition committee formed the Gwangju Student Performance Improvement TF Team, which embraces diversity, within the policy vision division, and the Student Meal TF Team for vacation support within the Smart Support division.
The Gwangju Student Performance Improvement TF Team is composed of 22 members, including Professor Seon Ju-won of Gwangju National University of Education as the team leader, three transition committee members, four supervisors and education officers, four principals and vice principals, and ten teachers.

The team plans to discuss various key initiatives such as assigning elementary basic literacy teachers, installing 365 study rooms in middle and high schools, developing an AI homework system, creating a Gwangju-style diagnostic evaluation system, and operating high school dormitories with the Office of Education, teachers' organizations (unions), and school operation committees.
The Student Meal TF Team for vacation periods is composed of 13 members, led by Jeong Eun-nam, head of the Labor Policy Division, including three transition committee members, three administrative office managers, four nutrition teachers, nutritionists, and cooks, and two Office of Education staff members.
Lee stated, “There is an urgent need to resolve the issue of providing meals to students in care blind spots during school vacations, which has caused great difficulties for parents, along with diverse measures to improve Gwangju students' performance.”
A transition committee official said, “Providing meals to students during vacations involves challenges such as changes in working conditions for nutrition teachers, cooks, and kitchen staff, and negotiations on operational expenses with local governments, but we will do our best to reflect the elected superintendent’s will and ensure the pledge is implemented.”
Meanwhile, the 4th direct election Gwangju Superintendent Transition Committee completed the formation of three divisions and the review of major issues by last week. Starting today, they plan to receive work reports from the Office of Education headquarters and affiliated agencies until the 21st and discuss various policies.
After the work reports from the departments under the Office of Education, they will conduct a “Listening Tour” visiting teachers' organizations (unions), parents, and educational sites to hear new development plans for Gwangju education.
They also plan to gather diverse voices from young teachers in their 20s to 40s and open a policy proposal corner for Gwangju citizens within this week.
Lee emphasized, “I hope the transition committee becomes a professional and practical body that produces immediately implementable policies while understanding the current situation through work reports and communicating with the Office of Education on urgent issues,” adding, “I also look forward to diverse policy proposals from Gwangju citizens and the education community.”
