"Catch the Water" ... Jinju City Makes Every Effort to Prevent Drought Damage During Farming Season
Jogyuil Jinju Mayor Conducts Inspection of Gwanjeong Development and Riverbed Excavation Site
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, is making every effort to secure agricultural water by developing agricultural wells, excavating riverbeds, and utilizing water from nearby reservoirs to prevent a shortage of agricultural water during the full-scale farming season due to the ongoing prolonged drought.
The city expects that the average rainfall of 53.3mm on the 5th will allow rice planting to proceed without difficulty, but plans to promptly complete the projects underway for water development and maintenance of water facilities to prepare against any difficulties in farming caused by water shortages.
On the 13th, Mayor Jo Gyu-il of Jinju visited Jinhae and Bonggang-ri areas in Jiphyeon-myeon, which are experiencing a shortage of agricultural water, inspected the site where emergency agricultural water supply is being promoted, and checked the progress of rice planting.

On that day, the Jinhae and Bonggang-ri areas in Jiphyeon-myeon visited by Mayor Jo Gyu-il are securing insufficient agricultural water by installing emergency pumping facilities at nearby reservoirs such as Namseong and Naengjeong to supply agricultural water. The city is also promoting the development of bedrock wells in other areas.
Currently, the rice planting status in Jinju city is 4,150 hectares out of a total of 4,280 hectares, showing a progress rate of 97%. Due to recent rainfall, the storage rate of small and medium reservoirs has risen from 56.9% to 59.2%, which is not sufficient but has alleviated some of the drought.
Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, “We believe that rice planting can proceed without difficulty due to the recent rainfall. However, to prepare for the ongoing drought situation, we plan to complete water development and water facility maintenance projects early and actively respond through monitoring the farming situation.”
