Daegu Environment Agency, 'Illegal Household Chemical Products OUT!'
On-site Monitoring of Major Large-scale Marts and Department Stores in Daegu and Gyeongbuk in Mid-June
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Daegu Regional Environmental Office will conduct on-site monitoring in June at about 10 major locations including large marts and department stores in Daegu and Gyeongbuk to eradicate the distribution of safety confirmation target household chemical products that do not comply with safety and labeling standards.
“Safety confirmation target household chemical products” refer to chemical products used in everyday living spaces such as homes, offices, and multi-use facilities, including air fresheners and cleaning agents. These are designated and announced household chemical products recognized as hazardous based on risk assessments conducted by the Minister of Environment under the “Act on the Safety Management of Household Chemical Products and Biocides” (hereinafter referred to as the Chemical Products Safety Act).
The monitoring targets are major large marts and department stores located in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, where on-site visits will be made to check whether violating products are being sold, displayed, stored, or kept.
The main inspection items include compliance with safety and labeling standards and the use of restricted phrases such as “non-toxic,” “environmentally friendly,” and “harmless” in packaging and advertising, which are prohibited.
Additionally, the Daegu Regional Environmental Office will monitor whether products that have not been recalled despite recall orders or sales bans are being resold in the market.

If the distribution of violating products is confirmed through on-site monitoring, administrative actions and prosecutions will be taken against manufacturers, importers, and sellers, so business operators distributing such products need to exercise special caution.
In the second half of the year, monitoring will continue to eradicate the distribution of products violating safety and labeling standards to help alleviate public concerns.
The Ministry of Environment discloses information on lawful products and violating products subject to administrative actions such as recall orders through the “Choroknuri” website and app, a household environment safety information system. Therefore, sellers should verify this information and handle only lawful products, immediately stop selling violating products, and request manufacturers and importers to recall and dispose of them to prevent distribution in the market.
Choi Jong-won, head of the Daegu Regional Environmental Office, stated, “We will actively work to protect consumers’ health and reduce anxiety from violating household chemical products,” and urged “business operators who manufacture, import, and sell safety confirmation target household chemical products to ensure compliance by confirming and reporting safety standards conformity and labeling this information on products during distribution.”
