Fostering Creative Convergence Talents... Ulsan Office of Education Strengthens Support for AI Education Implementation in the Field
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education is strengthening support projects related to artificial intelligence (AI) education, including AI leading schools.
The Office of Education is currently operating AI leading schools expanded from 10 schools last year to 16 schools this year.
AI leading schools are schools that lead various AI education activities in flexible and creative educational spaces where collaboration among students and project-based learning are possible.
Leading schools move away from the existing one-way fixed computer rooms and foster creative convergence talents required by future society in spaces where AI education activities are possible.
Schools without spaces suitable for AI education activities receive budget support for space construction to facilitate AI education activities, and schools with established spaces are supported in developing and operating educational activity models.
The Office of Education has selected Ulsan Gyeongui High School and Yaksago High School as AI convergence education-centered high schools, providing space construction and AI convergence education opportunities, and operates joint curricula to revitalize digital information education, nurturing them as regional hub high schools.
AI convergence education-centered high schools require the subjects ‘Information’ or ‘Basic Artificial Intelligence’ as mandatory and organize a total of 26 or more units of ‘AI convergence subjects’ over three years.
AI convergence subjects are also operated as joint curricula with at least 4 units, providing concentrated opportunities to learn AI convergence education through various creative experiential activity programs and career and college guidance related to AI fields.
Ulsan Office of Education is conducting visiting AI education training for 50 schools to assist teachers preparing for AI education in the field.
For in-service elementary and secondary school teachers, the office has linked with four graduate schools of education to strengthen AI convergence education capabilities in connection with subject education.
Last year, 49 people applied to the AI convergence graduate schools, and this year, more than 20 additional supports will be provided to fully commit to nurturing future talents who will lead the AI era.
On the 14th, the Office of Education invited Professor Jeong Youngsik from Jeonju National University of Education to hold a special lecture on understanding and settling AI education, a core field of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
A total of 120 people, including information and computer major teachers, AI leading school and central high school teachers, attended the special lecture to communicate about the necessity and educational direction of AI education.
An official from the Office of Education said, “In the era of digital transformation, AI education has become a concept beyond necessity to essential,” and added, “We will actively support the expansion of related education and steady talent cultivation so that AI education can be firmly established in the educational field.”
