21 Nominees for Successor to Supreme Court Justice Kim Jae-hyung Approved for Review... 3 Female Candidates Included
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] The Supreme Court announced on the 13th that out of 42 candidates nominated as successors to Justice Kim Jae-hyung, whose term expires on September 5, 21 have agreed to undergo screening.
Among the candidates who agreed to the screening, 19 are current judges, while one is a lawyer and one is a professor who formerly served as a judge. There are three female candidates in total.
The list of nominees who agreed to the screening, along with their careers, can be found on the Supreme Court website.
The Supreme Court will accept opinions on these candidates for 14 days from the 15th to the 28th.
Any citizen or organization of the Republic of Korea may submit opinions regarding the candidates who agreed to the screening.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will present the opinions submitted by the public to the members of the Judicial Recommendation Committee before its meeting.
Subsequently, the Chief Justice will present to the Judicial Recommendation Committee those nominees who agreed to the screening and have no clear disqualifications. The committee will review the nomination documents, opinions, and various verification materials to assess the candidates' suitability for the position of Supreme Court Justice and recommend a list of candidates at least three times the number of vacancies.
