"Training 4,000 Young AI Talents Annually"… Establishment of LG Ames
Young Adults Aged 19-29, Regardless of Education or Major, Apply by the 22nd
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] LG has launched an AI expert training program for youth called ‘LG Aimers’ and aims to nurture 4,000 young AI talents annually.
On the 14th, LG announced that through ‘LG Aimers,’ which is structured based on its experience and know-how in AI education, it plans to train more than 4,000 young AI talents each year. The program faithfully reflects the voices of young people who want expert-level AI theoretical education and opportunities to gain practical experience.
Under the theme of ‘Creating a More Valuable Future Together with Youth,’ ‘LG Aimers’ is open to anyone aged 19 to 29 who has basic AI knowledge and coding skills, regardless of academic background or major. As an AI expert training course rather than basic AI education, it is conducted online for two months so that participating youth can improve their skills anywhere regardless of their place of residence.
Applications can be submitted on the website until the 22nd. Selected participants of ‘LG Aimers’ will be able to attend free core theoretical lectures in July by six of the country’s top AI experts, including ▲Professor Bae Seok-ju of Hanyang University’s Department of Industrial Engineering ▲Professor Kang Je-won of Ewha Womans University’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering ▲Professor Lee Won-jong of Seoul National University’s Department of Intelligent Information Convergence ▲Professor Moon Tae-seop of Seoul National University’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering ▲Professor Lee Sang-hak of Seoul National University’s Graduate School of Data Science ▲and Research Fellow Kim Kyung-seok of LG Innotek. In addition to acquiring theory-based knowledge, participants can also join the ‘LG AI Hackathon’ to gain practical experience.
A hackathon, a portmanteau of hacking and marathon, is a competition that evaluates the ability to solve given problems within a limited time. Participants in the ‘LG AI Hackathon’ will spend the month of August working directly with LG’s industrial field data to solve problems, thereby enhancing their AI utilization skills. Those who achieve excellent results in the ‘LG AI Hackathon’ will be given interview opportunities with LG affiliates.
Kim Yi-kyung, Head of HR and Development at LG Corporation, said, “We will spare no support to establish this as a representative AI education program that provides learning opportunities for young people who want to become AI experts and serves as a much-needed resource for companies struggling with AI talent shortages.”
