Jeonnam Province Develops Self-Reliance Support Measures for 'Protected Children' Reflecting Regional Characteristics
Implementation of Survey on the Status and Needs of Youth Preparing for Independence Until December
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Following the joint announcement of the government ministries' 'Strengthened Support Measures for Children Aging Out of Care' last July, national support has been enhanced starting this year, including the expansion of independent support agencies and the extension of the aging-out age to 24.
Accordingly, Jeonnam Province has taken steps to develop independent support measures reflecting regional characteristics.
Jeonnam Province announced on the 12th that it will carry out a 'Research Service on the Independence Status and Needs Survey of Youth Preparing for Independence' to support the successful independence of youth aging out of child welfare facilities and foster care as they enter society.
The province selected the Jeonnam Women and Family Foundation, which has extensive experience in welfare fields such as women and child policy research, as the agency to conduct the research. The service will be conducted over seven months until December.
The research tasks include a living condition survey of youth preparing for independence within five years after aging out of facilities and foster care in the Jeonnam area, identifying necessary support measures for successful independence, and assessing budget demands.
Additionally, the study will investigate the status of youth preparing for independence who have lost contact, develop support plans, and establish directions for the development of independence support policies and projects.
Kim Jongbun, Jeonnam Province Women's and Family Policy Officer, said, “Although about 200 youth preparing for independence enter society every year, it is difficult to succeed in independence alone without any social support. Through this research service, we will discover customized support measures to help youth preparing for independence settle well as members of the local community.”
