Samsung Electronics Accelerates Mobile Technology Development and Talent Nurturing through Industry-Academia Collaboration
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] Samsung Electronics has decided to strengthen industry-academia cooperation with domestic universities to accelerate the development of cutting-edge mobile technologies and talent cultivation.
According to the business community on the 12th, Samsung Electronics hosted the '1st MX Vision Day' event on the 10th, inviting professors and researchers from major domestic universities to Samsung Electronics' Suwon Digital City to share the latest research and development results related to mobile technology.
At the event, No Tae-moon, head of Samsung Electronics' MX Division, stated, "In a situation where market and consumer demands for new technologies are expanding, securing core technologies and nurturing outstanding talent through 'openness' are the core values of the MX Division," adding, "Through continuous industry-academia cooperation, we will realize 'open innovation' and continuously evolve the Galaxy ecosystem to enhance future value with diverse products and services."
The event was attended by about 100 professors and researchers from 22 research institutes of five universities, including Seoul National University, Yonsei University, KAIST, Pohang University of Science and Technology, and Hanyang University. Research results from industry-academia cooperation projects conducted through these research institutes were shared. The industry-academia research conducted by Samsung Electronics and the 22 university research institutes over about a year since June last year covers ▲ key hardware such as cameras, displays, and audio ▲ software technologies such as multimedia and graphics ▲ various next-generation mobile core technologies including security, cloud, and AI.
Additionally, at the event, Samsung Electronics' MX Division shared its business strategy with attendees, focusing on the latest mobile technologies, market trends, and customer-centric management to innovate the mobile experience. The strengthened industry-academia cooperation between Samsung Electronics and major universities is expected to contribute not only to nurturing convergent talents encompassing hardware and software but also to strengthening South Korea's future technology ecosystem.
Professor Hong Won-bin of Pohang University of Science and Technology, who participated in the broadband antenna technology development project, said, "Through industry-academia cooperative research with Samsung Electronics, which leads the global mobile industry, we selected and researched topics most needed in the market," adding, "I hope academia and industry will continue to collaborate closely so that South Korea can maintain a sustainable advantage in global technology competition."

It will further activate academic research needed in the industrial field and strengthen industry-academia cooperation to secure and nurture excellent research personnel. In particular, it will continue to strive to build and develop talent infrastructure so that outstanding talents who can lead mobile technology can enter companies and demonstrate their capabilities.
