Hyundai Card, Korea's First Exhibition in Media & Performance Collection at The Museum of Modern Art, New York
'Seumyeodeuneun Bit' Exhibition... Video Works by 5 MoMA-Collected Artists on Display
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Card announced on the 10th that it will hold the exhibition "Pervasive Light" at 'Hyundai Card Storage,' an exhibition and cultural space located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA) until September 25.
This exhibition features five video works by five artists in the field of media and performance art from MoMA's collection, including Harun Farocki, Martine Syms, Trevor Paglen, Sandra Mujinga, and American Artist.
The exhibition title, Pervasive Light, is taken from the work of the same name created by Sandra Mujinga, a Norwegian artist of Congolese origin participating in this exhibition. A Hyundai Card official explained, "The artists introduced in this exhibition, including Mujinga, share the commonality of addressing how the rapid development of media and technology not only innovates technology itself but also exerts influence on individuals' visual experiences as well as society as a whole."
This is the first time MoMA's Media & Performance collection has been introduced in Korea. Since 2006, Hyundai Card has partnered with MoMA for about 16 years, exclusively sponsoring over 50 major exhibitions held by MoMA. In particular, Hyundai Card has exclusively sponsored all exhibitions in MoMA's newly established Media & Performance Art dedicated space, the Marie-Jos?e and Henry Kravis Studio, under the name Hyundai Card Performance Series since 2019. Hyundai Card also exclusively sponsored MoMA exhibitions of well-known Korean installation artist Yang Hye-kyu and performance artist Pope.L.
Hyundai Card stated, "Hyundai Card and MoMA share the view that the importance of the media and performance fields in art history is significant," adding, "With this shared understanding and a strong partnership with MoMA, we have been able to introduce MoMA's media art works to domestic audiences for the first time."
