Park Ji-won: "Heading Toward 4 Consecutive Defeats in the Next General Election in 2 Years... Party and Public Sentiment Will Decide 'Lee Jae-myung's Candidacy'"
Park Ji-won "Democratic Party, with this current mood, will face 4 consecutive losses until the general election in 2 years"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Former National Intelligence Service Director Park Ji-won said on the 10th about the current situation of the Democratic Party of Korea, "They say it's a 3 consecutive losses in the election now, but with two years left until the general election, they are heading toward a 4 consecutive losses."
Former Director Park appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' that morning and responded "They will lose again" to the host's question, "If the atmosphere continues that they lost but fought well, will they lose again?" Regarding the speculation that Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Jae-myung might run for party president, he said, "There is still time, so the party's core supporters and public opinion will decide," adding, "It's not the path of 'jasaengdangsa' (self survives, party dies), but 'dangsaengjasa' (party survives, self dies) that is better. Now, the party convention should find a way where both the party and the individual survive through public sentiment."
Former Director Park said, "What the Democratic Party did well this time was electing Woo Sang-ho as the emergency committee chairman. I still saw hope," and "Also, the election of Kim Dong-yeon as governor of Gyeonggi Province in the last local election gave hope to the Democratic Party." However, regarding the Democratic Party's defeat in the local elections, he pointed out, "They suffered a harsh failure because they acted out of touch with the people's sentiment," and "Saying they lost but fought well is not humble."
Former Director Park also criticized the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's 'prosecutor-heavy' personnel appointments, saying, "President Park Chung-hee and President Chun Doo-hwan did not use the military in finance and fiscal matters," and "Not all prosecutors are bad, but filling all key government positions with prosecutors is excessive." He added, "They say appointments are based on ability, but it's not that they don't consider region or women," and "Previous administrations have made balanced appointments and considerations to heal the division between North and South and East and West conflicts, but this administration has no one from Gwangju or Jeonnam in the transition team, cabinet, or senior Blue House positions."
