Lee Suhee, Elected Mayor of Gangdong-gu, Launches Transition Committee... Requests Suspension of Temporary Worker Hiring
Plaque Unveiling Ceremony for Gangdong District Mayor Transition Committee Held at 3 PM on the 9th... Securing Means to Implement Promises Reflecting Public Sentiment and Objective, Precise Diagnosis of Gangdong District Administration for the 8th Elected Term's Policy Direction
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The transition committee for the 8th term Gangdong District Mayor, led by Mayor-elect Lee Su-hee, held a plaque ceremony on the 9th and officially began the district administration transition work.
Mayor-elect Lee appointed nine practical and professional experts as transition committee members, although up to 15 members could have been formed. This was to reduce the burden of transition work on district office employees so they could focus on the livelihood economy.
The transition committee chairperson was appointed as Choi Hang-do, who previously served as the Director of Planning and Coordination at Seoul City Hall and as an advisory member of the Board of Audit and Inspection.
Besides the chairperson, eight members were appointed, including researchers from public interest organizations such as the Nara Salim Research Institute and experts from various fields including local administration, welfare, accounting, finance, culture, environment, and technology.
First, the transition committee, led by the chairperson, will conduct an objective and detailed diagnosis of the previous Gangdong District administration. Through this, they plan to set the direction for the 8th term district administration and secure means to effectively reflect public opinion for district administration reform in the implementation of campaign promises.
Additionally, the transition committee announced that during its activity period, it will receive proposals and complaints from residents and incorporate opinions that help district development into campaign promises.
Opinions or complaints for district development can be submitted by visiting the transition committee office (Seongnae-ro 6-gil 11, Samwon Tower 6th floor) in person, or by phone or email.
Meanwhile, during the transition committee’s work report, Mayor-elect Lee Su-hee requested the suspension of the hiring schedule for temporary workers for the 'Gangdong-type Resident Autonomy Committee' project.
There have been many residents’ opinions that improvements are needed for the 'Gangdong-type Resident Autonomy Committee' project, and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has expressed his intention to reduce the budget related to resident autonomy projects. Since future city funding support for resident autonomy budgets is uncertain, hiring one-year temporary workers (paid a living wage monthly) could ultimately burden the Gangdong District budget, so the hiring process suspension was requested.
