[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] “Hong Gil-dong’s strengths are job readiness and career decision certainty, while the lacking competencies are decision-making confidence and self-understanding. We recommend the ‘Personal Counseling Program’ as the top priority.”

National Pukyong National University operates a system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze students’ strengths and weaknesses and recommend customized extracurricular programs.

The system is the ‘AI Job Competency Analysis and Customized Extracurricular Consulting Platform,’ recently developed by Pukyong National University in the form of a webpage.

When students access the platform and take the diagnostic test, their strengths and weaknesses are displayed with scores and percentiles across six career development preparation categories?job readiness, relationship utilization confidence, major occupational knowledge, self-understanding, career decision certainty, and decision-making confidence?and eight occupational value categories?creativity, autonomy, ability demonstration, self-development, social service, compensation, stability, and social recognition.

Based on the test results, the AI recommends up to 10 extracurricular programs prioritized to either strengthen the student’s strengths or supplement lacking competencies.

Students can also check which programs are frequently recommended to peers in their college or department.

The programs recommended by the AI are among the 180 extracurricular programs offered free of charge by Pukyong National University outside of major and general education courses.

Following the AI recommendations, students can select and participate in programs such as foreign language courses, career psychological counseling, volunteer activities, competitions, and employment or start-up support to develop various competencies.

Pukyong National University requires all approximately 3,500 first-year students to take the diagnostic test on the AI platform by the 10th of this month, linked with the mandatory general education course ‘University Life and Career Planning,’ and plans to expand the platform’s operation to all grades starting next month.

Kim Young-mok, Director of Student Affairs at Pukyong National University, said, “We will expand support by utilizing the AI platform so that students can plan their careers early from their first year and develop the necessary competencies during their university life by expanding related programs.”
