독 Merck completes 25 billion KRW 'OLED Sublimation Purification Facility' at Poseung Industrial Complex
[Asia Economy (Pyeongtaek) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The global organic light-emitting diode (OLED) material specialist, German Merck Group, has completed an 'OLED Sublimation Purification Facility' in the Poseung National Industrial Complex in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, investing 25 billion KRW.
The OLED sublimation purification facility is a plant capable of purifying impurities in large quantities and high purity for the production of electronic materials used in OLEDs.
Merck Korea Co., Ltd. (Merck), the Korean subsidiary of the Merck Group, announced on the 9th that it held a factory completion ceremony on the 8th at the Poseung National Industrial Complex in Pyeongtaek.
With the completion of this factory, OLED panel manufacturers such as LG Display and material companies like PNH Tech have established a foundation to receive or collaboratively produce OLED materials domestically, which were previously imported from Germany, located 8,000 km away.
Since completing a factory in the Poseung National Industrial Complex in Pyeongtaek in 2002, Merck Korea has supplied LCD liquid crystals to major domestic and international display companies.
In 2015, it established an applied research center for OLED material development, and this time expanded the factory to install sublimation purification equipment for domestic supply of OLED materials. Merck Korea plans to supply OLED materials of the same quality to customers by utilizing the same enterprise resource planning (ERP) system as the factory located in Darmstadt, Germany, where its headquarters are based.
OLED materials are core materials of the items stipulated in the Special Act on Materials, Parts, and Equipment (SoBuJang), which forms the basis of the government's basic plan for SoBuJang (materials, parts, and equipment).
Jeong Do-young, Director of Economic Planning at the provincial government, evaluated, "Merck Korea's investment in Gyeonggi Province is significant in the process of the display market transitioning from the LCD industry to the OLED industry."
