On the 7th (local time), foreign media including the U.S. daily The New York Times (NYT) reported that the House Select Committee plans to hold the hearing at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on the 9th.
Earlier, circumstantial evidence emerged suggesting former U.S. President Donald Trump incited the congressional riot, raising the possibility that the hearing results could deal a significant blow to Trump, who is aiming for the next presidential election.
Major U.S. broadcasters such as NBC, CBS, and ABC will broadcast the hearing live during prime time. MSNBC and CNN will provide overnight coverage.
The January 6 Capitol riot refers to the incident on January 6 last year when supporters of former President Trump, who refused to accept the 2020 November election defeat, stormed the Capitol to disrupt the joint session of the House and Senate certifying President Joe Biden's election. At that time, lawmakers evacuated urgently, and five people, including one police officer, died on the day.
