Crown Beer
Crown Beer by HiteJinro, first introduced in 1952 and popular for 40 years, has returned after being discontinued in 1993. This ‘hremium’ beer exudes a strong retro vibe, with an alcohol content of 4.7%.
If you want to taste a savory beer, Crown Beer is perfect. The foam dissipates quickly, but it produces a rich head and has relatively strong carbonation, though not as much as lager. Amid the bitterness, you can taste the deep savory maltiness and a slight sweetness, which is the charm point of Crown Beer. Ale lovers might find it lacking as it doesn’t have strong fruity or floral aromas, but if you don’t prefer heavily scented beers and want a beer with noticeable malt presence yet moderately light, it’s worth trying at least once.
Malpyo Pear Ale
Malpyo Industrial teamed up with Squeeze Brewery to release an ale beer made with pear. The can features a golden color reminiscent of pear and a white background with a horse symbolizing Malpyo. The alcohol content is 4%, the same as the previously released Green Grape Ale.
This beer has a scent similar to freshly blended pear or demi-soda apple flavor. It tastes like beer mixed with melted Tankboy. You can feel the sweetness of the juice along with a honey-like sweetness, and the slight bitterness lingers briefly before fading. It tastes closer to a beverage than beer, so preferences may vary. Although the sweetness is strong, it is neither sticky nor heavy, and the refreshing and cool sweetness unique to pear makes it great for hot summer nights. It is recommended to drink it completely chilled like Tankboy.
GatSaeng Bomb Beer
‘GatSaeng Bomb Beer’ introduced by GS Retail’s ‘GatSaeng Planning’ team. As the name suggests, it is a beer that captures the taste of so-maek bombju (a mix of soju and beer). It contains the equivalent of 1/3 glass of soju and 1/2 glass of beer mixed in one can. The alcohol content is 6%.
It replicates the taste of so-maek well, but the soju flavor feels a bit strong. The beer’s carbonation is lively, providing a refreshing sensation. When making so-maek yourself, you need to prepare a bottle of soju and a bottle of beer separately, but with this beer, you can enjoy it all in one can, which is convenient. However, since it has a higher alcohol content than regular beer and the intoxication comes on quickly, it’s not ideal for gulping down. Although homemade so-maek tastes best, this beer is good for those who want to enjoy so-maek easily.
