View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Amid the rising agenda of 'public-private joint economic security' since the launch of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho and Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Chey Tae-won, among others, will meet next month in Jeju to find solutions to overcome the Korean economic crisis.
The KCCI announced on the 7th that it will hold the '45th KCCI Jeju Forum' for three days from the 13th to the 15th of next month. This marks the resumption of the country's largest summer forum after three years. Economic experts from both the public and private sectors will gather in full force. Attendees include Chairman Chey from the private sector, Deputy Prime Minister Choo, who serves as the control tower for government economic and industrial policies, and Minister Lee Chang-yang of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Also participating are prominent domestic trade experts such as Professor Choi Byung-il of Ewha Womans University, Professor Lee Jung-dong of Seoul National University, who made a significant impact on the domestic industrial ecosystem with his work 'The Path of Accumulation,' the newly appointed head of McKinsey Korea office who will assume office in mid-month, and Professor Yang Jeong-mu of Korea National University of Arts, known as an icon of art popularization. From overseas, Professor Adam Tooze of Columbia University, one of the '100 Global Thinkers' selected by Foreign Policy in 2019 and a top global diplomacy expert, and Professor Shin Yong-seok of Washington University in St. Louis, who received the Economist Award from the Korean-American Economic Association last year, will visit Jeju.

View original imageAs the global supply chain risks and the technological hegemony competition between the U.S. and China have brought the real economy to the forefront of national agendas, Deputy Prime Minister Choo and Minister Lee, responsible for domestic economic and industrial policies, will deliver policy lectures. Deputy Prime Minister Choo will speak on the topic 'Economic Policy Directions for New Growth,' addressing policy directions to overcome the prolonged Ukraine crisis, sustained low growth, and other domestic and international challenges to find growth pathways. Minister Lee will introduce how industrial, trade, and energy policies will be pursued amid complex risks such as the U.S.-China technological hegemony competition, global supply chain instability, and energy security.
Private sector experts will present insights necessary for Korea to take the lead in the global economy going forward. Professor Choi Byung-il will discuss 'The New International Order and Korea's Future,' explaining how Korean companies should respond amid the reorganization of the international trade order and the direction Korean industry should take. Professor Lee Jung-dong, who received acclaim from the industrial sector for 'The Time of Accumulation,' will reveal a roadmap for Korean industry to rise as a global leader through creation and pioneering rather than imitation and pursuit. The newly appointed head of McKinsey Korea office, who will give his first public lecture after assuming office in mid-month, is expected to provide insights on 'Changes in the Global Business Environment and Corporate Growth Strategies' essential for corporate management.
International experts will explain the process of global economic restructuring following the Ukraine crisis. Professor Tooze, who caused a worldwide sensation with his book 'Crashed,' which covers the ten-year history after the global financial crisis, will share insights related to 'The Process of Restructuring the Global Economic Paradigm.' He will provide forecasts on the global economic trends after COVID-19 and the Ukraine crisis. Professor Shin Yong-seok will suggest directions for the Korean economy amid uncertainties such as the fear of stagflation (S), the Federal Reserve's big steps, and quantitative tightening monetary policies. Professor Shin is well known as a prot?g? of Thomas Sargent, the 2011 Nobel Laureate in Economics.

Kim So-yeon, CEO of media startup Newneek and one of Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia leaders, will talk about communication methods and motivation with the MZ generation. Professor Yang Jeong-mu, known as a Western art storyteller, will present 'Stories of Art History through Masterpieces,' and Professor Kang Jae-heon of Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, the next president of the Korean Society of Family Medicine and the top authority on obesity treatment in Korea, will introduce 'CEO Health Management Methods.' Famous singer Shin Seung-hoon will hold the 'Jeju Blue Night Concert.' Woo Tae-hee, Executive Vice Chairman of the KCCI, said, "We carefully selected and invited distinguished speakers to help businesspeople facing difficult domestic and international environments to plan their future management strategies," adding, "With various programs prepared, we hope CEOs will gain insights and healing time at the Jeju Forum, held for the first time in three years."
