'Former Director Lee Dong-ho, Symbol of Gangnam-gu Office Officials, Elected as Gangnam-gu Council Member'
Former Gangnam District Council Secretary Lee Dong-ho Elected as Gangnam District Council Member in 6.1 Local Elections, Receives Applause from Staff
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Lee Dong-ho, former Secretary General of the Gangnam District Council (64), a symbol of Gangnam District Office officials, was elected as a Gangnam District Council member in the June 1 local elections.
Lee, who graduated from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and passed the Seoul City Level 9 Public Service Exam in 1983, began his public service career at Gangnam District Office. He started as an executive secretary during the first elected term of Mayor Kwon Moon-yong and has been known as a diligent public servant for 11 years.
In fact, serving as an aide to the district mayor or other heads of institutions is never easy. It is a position that requires dedication from early morning until late at night.
As a result of successfully handling such responsibilities, during the fourth elected term of Mayor Maeng Jeong-ju and the sixth elected term of Mayor Shin Yeon-hee’s reexamination period, he served as General Affairs Division Chief, supporting the district mayor’s administration.
Additionally, Lee has held positions such as Director of the Education Support Division, Director of the Tax Management Division, Director of the Family Welfare Division, Chief of Cheongdam 2-dong, and Chief of Daechi 2-dong.
After retirement, he served as Vice President of Dot Co., Ltd., which exports assistive devices for socially vulnerable groups such as the disabled, before entering the Gangnam District Council this time.
Lee’s continued respect from Gangnam District Office employees stems from his consistent humility, both in the past and present.
In a phone interview with the reporter, Lee said, “I have lived in Gangnam for 42 years and worked at Gangnam District Office for 33 years, so I know Gangnam better than anyone else. I chose this path to repay the grace I received from the nation and Gangnam through work in the field I can do best.”
He added, “While working mainly in the General Affairs Division and the Secretary’s Office at Gangnam District Office, I naturally encountered the needs and inconveniences of residents. When those issues were resolved through coordination with relevant departments, seeing the residents’ happiness was very rewarding, and I felt proud more than once.”
Lee stated, “I realized, ‘Ah! These are the very tasks of grassroots politics for the residents.’ I will always be with the residents as they wish, effectively convey their intentions to Gangnam District Office, renew Gangnam, and become a representative who enriches residents’ lives.”
He continued, “Going forward, I will prioritize work in the district council to ensure the safety of Gangnam residents, create a pleasant urban environment, and support socially vulnerable groups such as the disabled and the elderly.”
