[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] A man in his 40s who suspected that his girlfriend was seeing another man and sent terrifying messages such as "Call me" and "I'll burn you at night" by depositing 1 won each into her bank account was sentenced to prison.
On the 4th, Judge Cha Youngwook of the Chuncheon District Court Criminal Division 3 announced that he sentenced A (43), who was indicted for violating the Stalking Punishment Act, the Narcotics Control Act, and assault charges, to 8 months in prison. In addition, A was ordered to complete 40 hours each of drug addiction rehabilitation education and stalking treatment programs.
While dating woman B, A suspected that B was seeing another man and, from mid-November last year, deposited 1 won each into B's account with messages such as "Let's end it, call me," "Just wait," and "I'll burn you at night" written in the depositor's name field. Over about ten days, he sent messages 681 times, and from December, he sent 607 text messages over about a month.
Furthermore, he assaulted C, who introduced B to him, and committed drug crimes such as using methamphetamine.

Judge Cha explained the sentencing reason, saying, "The crime of stalking, continuously threatening and harassing the victim, is serious, and the assault is also of a bad nature. Considering that the defendant admitted all the crimes and appears to be remorseful, the sentence was determined comprehensively."
