UN Specialized Agency Condemns "Unannounced North Korean Missiles Pose Serious Threat to Civil Aviation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has recently condemned North Korea's repeated missile test launches.
On the 3rd (local time), the ICAO Council held its 226th meeting in Montreal, Canada, stating, "North Korea's missile launches, which continue without prior notice, pose a persistent serious threat to international civil aviation."
ICAO is a United Nations specialized agency operating to ensure the safety of aircraft operations and the development of air routes, airports, and related facilities. It has 193 member countries, with 36 countries including South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, France, Germany, and Japan serving on the Council.
ICAO stated, "North Korea's missile test launches violate UN Security Council sanctions resolutions 1718, 2270, and 2321," and urged, "North Korea must comply with the Convention on International Civil Aviation and adhere to ICAO standards and recommended practices." The Convention on International Civil Aviation is a multilateral treaty adopted at the 1944 Chicago Conference, containing general regulations on international civil aviation.
