Haenam-gun Implements Comprehensive Measures for Summer Heatwaves

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam County, Jeollanam-do, will implement a comprehensive heatwave response plan from the 30th of this month to September 30th in response to this year's early heatwave.

According to the county on the 3rd, during the implementation period of the comprehensive plan, a joint heatwave T/F team will be formed to conduct real-time situation management to prevent casualties caused by summer heatwaves and minimize inconvenience to residents.

In addition, when a heatwave advisory is issued, task forces will be organized by sector to protect vulnerable groups, manage safety of vulnerable facilities, maintain heatwave mitigation facilities, and promote heatwave prevention, aiming for a full-scale response to the heatwave.

First, to allow vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, who are relatively weak against heatwaves, to rest away from the heat, 575 cooling shelters will be operated within the county, and additional shade tents will be installed at crosswalks to provide heatwave shelters for residents waiting for pedestrian signals.

Also, customized cooling items (such as fans and hand fans) will be provided so that vulnerable groups can cope with the heatwave on their own.

Furthermore, measures will be implemented in various sectors including operating water spraying trucks on main roads, preventing damage to crops and livestock, managing heatwave-vulnerable facilities such as livestock barns, and strengthening safety management for elderly field workers and outdoor workers at construction sites.

A county official said, “Since an exceptionally hot summer is forecasted this year, we will protect the health of residents through thorough preemptive measures.”
