Yeonggwang-gun to Host Waterski and Wake Sports Championship from the 9th
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 3rd that it will host the 35th National Men and Women Student Water Ski and Wake Sports Championships at Bulgab Reservoir Waterskiing Site from the 9th to the 12th.
Hosted by the Korea Water Ski & Wake Sports Association (President Park Dongju) and organized by the Jeonnam Water Ski & Wake Sports Association (President Hong Seonggwon), this competition will feature over 300 athletes and officials nationwide competing in five events: wakeboard, wakesurf, jump, slalom, and trick to determine the strongest competitors.
Water skiing is gaining popularity every year as more people enjoy water leisure sports, especially since it allows exercise while escaping the summer heat. In response, the county has been holding a nationwide water skiing competition annually since 2008.
Notably, in 2016, Yeonggwang-gun promoted itself internationally by hosting the Asia Water Ski & Wakeboard Championships.
A county official stated, “Bulgab Reservoir, the venue for this competition, embraces Bulgapsa Temple, one of Yeonggwang’s nine scenic spots, and boasts a pristine natural environment, making it an ideal place to enjoy leisure sports. We hope this event will not only revitalize leisure sports but also serve as a valuable opportunity for participating athletes to grow into high-level competitors.”
