Jeonju City to Host '2022 Dano Festival' at Deokjin Park on June 3-4
Until the 4th, the 'Midsummer Night's Eve, Festival of Lights' event also takes place near Yeonhwajeong in Deokjin Park
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 2nd that the representative seasonal event, ‘2022 Jeonju Dano Festival,’ will be held for two days on the 3rd and 4th at Jeonju Deokjin Park.
Hosted by Jeonju City and organized by the (Corporation) ‘Traditional Culture Contents Yeon,’ the Jeonju Dano Festival is a festival that continues the millennium-old tradition of Jeonju and has established itself as one of the most meaningful seasonal customs in the lives of Jeonju citizens.
The 2022 Jeonju Dano Festival, held over two days on the 3rd and 4th, features a variety of rich programs including the Dano Street Parade performance, the Dano Bountiful Harvest Prayer Ceremony wishing for the well-being and good harvest of Jeonju citizens, Dano Cultural Yard, Dano Pungnyu Yard, Traditional Play Yard, Dano Nanjang, and side events.
Among these, the Dano Cultural Yard consists of △‘Dano Water Splashing,’ a custom believed to ward off misfortune by washing one’s hair with iris water △‘Dano Experience Tour’ including iris tea ceremony experience, Dano family register painting, scholar play, and jangmyeongru (bracelet) making △‘Dano Seasonal Customs Experience’ where participants can try making iris flower pots, seesaw jumping, Dano fans, Dano family register painting, Dano Bim Namsadang play, and swing jumping △‘Dano Food Experience’ where visitors can taste Dano refreshing drinks and try pounding rice cakes.
Additionally, the Dano Pungnyu performances include △Dano Bountiful Harvest Prayer Ceremony △Jeonbuk Intangible Cultural Heritage performances with 10 shows △Ongoeul Culture and Arts Festival △Dano Youth Arts Festival, providing fun and entertainment for visitors throughout the festival period.
Also, the Dano Competition held as a traditional play yard event will showcase the yutnori skills of residents from over 20 neighborhoods in Jeonju on the 3rd, competing in a neighborhood team contest. A children’s tuho (arrow throwing) contest will also be held for kids to enjoy.
Other side events include △‘Senior Longevity Photo Shoot’ wishing for the longevity of the elderly △‘Dano Photo Exhibition’ △‘Attaching Wish Papers to Dano Lanterns,’ where participants write their earnest wishes on wish papers △‘Pungmul Market,’ selling handmade products of good quality and price △‘Jeonju Dano Sarangbang,’ a discussion forum with notable figures to promote Jeonju Dano △and a special event called ‘Nanjangpan.’
Meanwhile, to commemorate the 2022 Jeonju Dano Festival and to announce the end of the COVID-19 era while wishing for hope and well-being, Jeonju City is presenting a lighting show titled ‘Midsummer Night’s New Year’s Eve, Festival of Lights’ near Yeonhwajeong from the 1st.
This lighting show, which can be seen daily until the 4th, is held four times in total for 10 minutes each at 30-minute intervals starting from 8:30 PM around Yeonhwajeong Library and Yeonhwagyo Bridge area.
