Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake in Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, China... 7 Casualties Reported
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] On the afternoon of the 1st, earthquakes measuring 6.1 and 4.5 in magnitude occurred consecutively in Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, China.
According to the China Seismic Network, at 5:00 PM that day, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake was observed in Lushan County, Ya'an City. The depth of the epicenter was identified as 17 km.
Three minutes later, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake (epicenter depth 18 km) occurred in Baoxing County, also in Ya'an City.
As of 6:30 PM, the state-run China Central Television (CCTV) reported that seven casualties were confirmed in Baoxing County, including 1 dead, 1 seriously injured, and 5 lightly injured. CCTV also reported that the extent of damage in Lushan County, where the earthquake was stronger, has not yet been determined.
