[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Regarding the incident in which a vehicle carrying a brother and sister in their 40s fell into the sea at Dongbaek Port in Busan, the Coast Guard has applied for an arrest warrant on murder charges against the older brother who survived alone.
On the 1st, the Ulsan Coast Guard announced that it had applied for an arrest warrant for the older brother, Mr. A, in his 40s, on murder charges the previous day.
Mr. A is suspected of causing the vehicle to fall into the sea by operating it after placing his younger sister, who was suffering from a brain tumor, in the driver's seat at Dongbaek Port on the 3rd of last month. At that time, Mr. A, who was in the passenger seat, escaped on his own, but his sister was transported to the hospital with the help of the Coast Guard and fire rescue team and eventually passed away.
The Coast Guard discovered several suspicious circumstances, including the fact that the insurance money under the sister's name was increased from 50 million won to 500 million won before the incident and that the legal heir was changed to Mr. A, and conducted an investigation considering the possibility of insurance fraud.
In relation to this, it was reported that Mr. A stated during the investigation that the accident occurred due to his sister's poor driving skills.
However, the Coast Guard viewed the incident as a premeditated crime based on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene. The CCTV showed Mr. A visiting Dongbaek Port the day before the incident and practicing how to operate the vehicle from the passenger seat in advance. On the day of the incident, it was also confirmed that Mr. A left his belongings, such as his mobile phone, outside the vehicle before boarding.
The Coast Guard judged that Mr. A's sister was in a health condition that made it impossible for her to drive due to a brain tumor, and that Mr. A, who was in the passenger seat, leaned over to operate the vehicle.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that two similar vehicle fall accidents involving Mr. A's family had occurred in Busan prior to this accident. The Coast Guard is investigating whether these are related to crimes such as insurance fraud by receiving related documents from the Busan Police. The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency is also reviewing accident records related to Mr. A to verify any connections between the incidents.
